Marcelline’s story
Cotonou, Benin
« Later I will be a great journalist. I want to focus on the sexual health of young people, I have always been interested in educating young people. »
“With my boyfriend we call and we write by Facebook or WhatsApp. As we have had the customary marriage and our parents know each other, we can meet freely here or in our family. If we hadn’t had this customary wedding we should have seen each other in secret.
Soon I plan to have children. I will limit myself to three in order to take good care of these three, invest well in their education and their future. There is no point in having lots of children and not taking good care of them.
Later I will be a great journalist. I want to focus on the sexual health of young people, I have always been interested in raising awareness among young people, participating in behavior change in my community.
In Benin, teens aged 10 to 24 represent 33% of the population. They are vulnerable and sometimes exposed due to a lack of information, especially young girls who drop out of school because of teenage pregnancies. Poverty is also a factor because girls who have no money prefer to give themselves to a man in order to have it. “
